Evaluation

I had the choice to either create a short film or a magazine cover with a double page spread. I picked the magazine and double page spread as I want to challenge the idea of sportswear not being as professional as most magazines you see on a day to day basis.

My target market is teenage boys aged from 13-18 who are interested in sports but football specifically. Also, they have an interest in fashion as I’m promoting sportswear. I made a survey to find out what people would rather read and this was most popular. I used Dexter as my model on the front cover and double page spread and presented him as a professional footballer. He was used to create a link between the target audience and someone they aspire to be. He is a role model to the target audience. The fact he is wearing the clothes could influence the target audience to do the same. Seeing him on the front cover will also get them to pick up the magazine and read.

My masthead and name of my magazine is called “Score.” I chose this as it relates to my sportswear as it has a direct link to football. This is because the term “score” is used in football a lot. This then gives connotation to my magazine as a whole.

My skyline reads “The number one place for sports fashion” This is because it adds information into what the whole magazine is about and that is why it is placed at the top. Also, this is conventional for most magazines which is why I have it.

The colour of my text throughout the magazine and double page spread is black, red and yellow. The black is used as the magazine name on a red background. I chose black for this as it is very bold and stands out on the red. The yellow is used on all of my subheadings in the anchorage text. I chose yellow for this as I think red, yellow and black go well together. Also, the convention of the colours are a reason for choice. For example, the mixing of red and yellow signals excitement and enthusiasm which is what I want the audience to feel while reading the magazine.

My anchorage text on the cover consists of personal quotes from Dexter which will interest the audience to read on and buy the magazine. Also, the text also talks about his tips on fashion which will link to the target audience wanting to be like him.

For my double page spread, I kept the same colour scheme of red, black and yellow. However, the yellow text was throughout and I had no black text apart from the magazine name. This was as I felt it was good at the time to keep it all one colour. However, looking back I could’ve maybe decided to make the questions and answers separate colours to make it easier for the reader to keep track.

All of my article text is wrapped around both images of Dexter. One side of the page has an image of Dexter and all of the text that side talks about his like a professional footballer and the other side the text is wrapped around a photo of Dexter but the right side talks about fashion sense. I decided to split the two sections to make it easier for the reader.

On the double page spread I have also made a quote which reads “Swansea is my home for years.” This is to entice the reader to pick it up and read more about him. This would link to the target audience as some people who are Swansea City fans would love to read about his decisions.
